If there had been more openness on the part of the Socialists and of the President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, it would not have been necessary for the Government to assume the responsibility of changing the procedure of pre-selecting the candidates for the position of Prosecutor General, and it could have been solved in Parliament. The statement belongs to the Chairman of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party, Andrei Năstase, Minister of Internal Affairs.
"Taking into account how the process has gone, this competition institution which was based on our best intentions, has been lately discredited and I am afraid that this effect will last for a while. Thus, it was necessary that the assuming of responsibility exercise be done by a Government which, from the outset, established as a priority to reform the judiciary, eradicate corruption, eliminate all schemes in the national economy and, of course, offer people justice and a better life, "said Andrei Năstase on " Moldova live " show, on Moldova 1 public TV station.
Andrei Nastase mentions that the current government has accomplished many good things and attained many successes, but when it came to the justice reform it appears that "someone has certain fears about an independent prosecutor who would not respond to political orders." The PPDA leader claims that would be President Igor Dodon in this case. "First of all, this refers to President Dodon. It is clear, it can be seen with the naked eye. I cannot say for sure about all Socialists, and I am sure that in the Democratic Party there are some people who are not necessarily against such a law, as not everyone has been involved in embezzlements, not all are criminally liable”, stated the politician.
The minister says that the gesture of assuming responsibility by the Sandu Government is a justified one for Moldova under the current conditions.
Moreover, Andrei Năstase refutes the recent speculations about him being put forward for the position of Prosecutor General. "Unfortunately, I can no longer achieve the dream of my youth to reach the highest echelons of the Prosecutor's Office, be at the head of this institution, because, in 2015, I had to go into politics, to lead a party that I am still running, and this poses some difficulties for me to aspire to such positions," said Andrei Năstase.
