Andrei Năstase and Andrei Nastas could run in constituency No. 33

The leader of the Political Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Andrei Năstase, who intends to run in constituency No. 33 Chisinau on behalf of the bloc ACUM, could have an opponent with an almost similar name – Andrei Nastas – who would run independently. Representatives of ACUM said this is another proof of the attempts to manipulate and mislead the people, IPN reports.

Andrei Năstase submitted the application for being issued with subscription lists on December 28, while Andrei Nastas on December 31.

Asked by journalists to comment on such a situation and if it does not confuse the voters, the president of the Central Election Commission Alina Russu said the supreme law stipulates two political rights – to elect and to be elected. Respectively, any person can ask to be registered as an election runner. “Yes, we saw that there are two persons who have similar name and surname in one of the constituencies in the municipality of Chisinau,” stated Alina Russu.

In a news conference earlier, Andrei Năstase said it is a sin to betray the citizens in such a way. He yet expressed his confidence that the people will be able to make a difference between black and white. “Sincerely, I expected about 20,000 Syrians to be brought to that constituency. The people know our values and our face. They know who Missis Sandu is, who I am and which our values and options are,” stated Andrei Năstase, adding he has confidence in the people.

Constituency No. 33 includes polling places No. 279-284 of Băcioi; No. 254-258 of Codru; No. 262-268 of Durlești, No. 269-273 of Sângera; No. 304-307 of Trușeni and consists of 60 335 voters.

Among the candidates in constituency No. 33 are Constantin Țuțu of the Democratic Party, Vladimir Roșca of the Party of Socialists, Ion Duca of the “Our Party”, independent Călin Vieru, Ion Bivol of the Shor Party and independent Boris Volosatyi. Only Constantin Țuțu has been registered for now.

Applications for registering initiative groups for supporting candidates for MP in single-member constituencies can be filed by January 4, 2019. The male candidates must gather by 500 to 1,000 signatures, while the female candidates by 250 to 500 signatures.
