Andrei Chistol: After EPC Summit, European citizens’ interest in Moldova will grow

The image credit that the Republic of Moldova will receive during the EPC Summit and later should be put to good use by continuing major projects that can connect the key areas of our country, including the cultural  segment, to the European civilization, Andrei Chistol, secretary of state of the Ministry of Culture, stated in a public debate hosted by IPN.

According to him, this image credit is important only if there is continuity. In Moldova’s history, there is no similar event from which our country would have benefitted from such impressive promotion. “Even if the summit ends on June 1, they will yet write about the significance of this event. We must capitalize on this image credit and popularization of the Republic of Moldova. From tourist perspective, for example, we haven’t invested much in the promotion of the county brand so far. I think we will all benefit from this event. It is important to have openness, view and not to stop here,” said Andrei Chistol.

He expressed his conviction that the interest of the European citizens in the Republic of Moldova will increase after the event. “I think we do not yet realize the significance of this summit for the Republic of Moldova and we will better realize it when the event will take place and later. The essential political events that occur are better perceived slightly afterward,” he noted.

The secretary of state also said that through the agency of this event, the culture, traditions and values of the country will pass the border and Moldova will be this way able to affirm its affiliation to the European civilization. “All the communication materials centering on this event are accompanied by the country brand that is also an expression of our identity, of the life tree and this makes us promote the country and interest in the Republic of Moldova. You realize that besides the European officials who will come here, we will have a large number of journalists who will write and will produce features about the Republic of Moldova. They will be those envoys who will generate interest in the Republic of Moldova, especially if we look from the perspective of tourism,” stated Andrei Chistol.

He noted that as the summit will take place in Bulboaca, new tourist prospects for this village will now appear. “This locality forms part of a destination that we want to develop and that will connect Chisinau with the Tighina Fortress. It is a tourist route that deserves and will be developed. In this case, Bulboaca and the Mimi Castle will be in the center of attention of those who will come or will write about the Republic of Moldova,” said Andrei Chistol, noting the safety of traveling to Moldova will increase after the summit as it is a credit of stability and safety given by the many leaders who will come to Moldova.

The public debate entitled “European Political Community Summit, opportunities opened up for cultural interconnection” was the fifth installment of IPN’s project “Support for European Integration by stimulating discussion in the mass media about the European Political Community (EPC) Summit” that is supported by Soros Foundation Moldova.
