The head of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Moldova, Romanian MEP Andi Cristea on September 8 submitted an emergency note to the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, concerning the European Commission’s plans to counteract the Russian propaganda in the states of its Eastern neighborhood, starting with Moldova.
A press release of the MEP’s Office says Andi Cristea asked the European Commission to strengthen the Delegations of the European Union in Chisinau, Kiev and Tbilisi by hiring additional personnel for combating the misinformation campaigns conducted by Russia and for increasing the presence of impartial European information using more interactive audiovisual means and social platforms in the local language, IPN reports.
“The European Union has a duty to strengthen the visibility of its actions so as to clearly show its support and commitment to the partner states. Strategic communication efforts are needed in the Eastern neighborhood, while a comprehensive, efficient and systemic communication strategy implies also additional personnel at the EU Delegations in the countries from the East that signed the Association Agreement with the European Union. The anti-European propaganda is combated on the spot, not only from Brussels,” said Andi Cristea, who is also a member of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs.
