Moldova will make a mistake if it files an application for accession to the EU, but it has chances to be included in the Western Balkans package at the Riga EaP Summit, MEP Andi Cristea, who heads the Parliamentary Committee for Association with Moldova, said in the talk show “European Horizon” at TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
Andi Cristea stated that if Moldova submits an application in 2015, this could be rejected. “What happens if this application is rejected? There are negative positions in this respect. The position of the Brussels executive is that the provisions of the Association Agreement with the EU should be first implemented and the issue of accession will be discussed afterward,” he said.
The MEP expressed his optimism about Moldova’s prospects at the Riga Summit. “Anything can happen at the Riga Summit. For the Republic of Moldova, the Riga Summit will be an event for assessing the made progress. The Eastern Partnership must be revitalized. There are great differences between the EaP member states. Despite some shortcomings, Moldova is a champion among the EaP countries and could be thus included in the Western Balkans package,” stated Andi Cristea.
