MEP Andi Cristea, co-chairman of the EU – Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, told the Moldovan authorities that the most important things are related to the continuation of reforms, stability and maintaining of the European course. He noted that even if particular progress was made in the reformation process, there are vulnerabilities that need to be eliminated. Such statements were made in a news conference centering on the second meeting of the EU – Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee that is held in Chisinau on May 18-19, IPN reports.
The Romanian official said there was great political instability in Moldova last year and the country now needs to regain the confidence of the partners and, especially, of the own people. This can be done by doing real and credible reforms. “We see progress. We agreed to hold another kind of meeting in Brussels on September 26 to analyze the general picture. We continue to identify a series of vulnerabilities, in particular in the financial-banking system,” stated Andi Cristea.
Liberal MP Mihai Ghimpu, the Committee’s co-chairman, said the meeting in Chisinau showed that the decision taken by the 57 MPs in January, as regards the voting in of the Filip Government, was a correct one. There are yet shortcomings in the implementation of reforms, but what was done brought the country onto a correct path.
Mihai Ghimpu noted that the fight against corruption remains a key problem. Particular changes are needed in the banking system to prevent bank frauds in the future. “We have the roadmap and I’m convinced that in autumn, when we go to the next meeting in Brussels, we will have better results. If we continue what we started, the Republic of Moldova will change. For us, it is important for the European road to become irreversible and this is possible by reforms only,” he stated.
The EU–Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee meets two times a year, in Brussels and in Chisinau. The first meeting of the Committee was held in Brussels on September 21-22, 2015.
