Anatolii Carpov will be a guest of honor at the International Chess Tournament of Moldova. The Memorial Tournament “V. Chebanenko” will be organized by the National Chess Federation on February 18-19, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the birth of the emeritus coach of Moldova Veceslav Chebanenko.
The international Russian master and world champion Anatolii Carpov will play simultaneously with the best chess players of the country and will play individual games with other world champions invited to the event.
The tournament will be held in two stages. The first stage “Open” is open to all those who will apply on the federation’s website by February 15. The second stage “Tournament of Children’s Teams” will involve about 200 chess players younger than 14. The participants will be from Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova. The six teams that will represent Moldova will include the best chess players from Balti, Comrat, Tiraspol, Rybnitsa, and Chisinau.
Igor Dodon, chairman of the National Chess Federation, said this will be the most tumultuous event dedicated to the game of chess in the last 15 years.
About 350,000 lei will be spent on the organization of the tournament, 200,000 of which will be given as prizes.
The competition will be broadcast live in Moldova and abroad. This is a novelty for our country.
