For the time being, there is no information as to how many technical staff will need to be laid off from the institutions absorbed following the university reform, but many were hired in combined job arrangements anyway, says Minister of Education Anatolie Topală. He also assures that no professors will be laid off.
Preliminary admission data this year is encouraging, meaning that most professors will be able to keep full work quotas, said during a program on RliveTV.
“It can happen that in a year there is better admission or less good admission for the university, which dictates a certain number of hours that teachers need to take. Depending on the admission, in a university that has not merged with anyone, someone may not have a full quota, but only 0.75 of if, for example, and the teaching staff knows this. Such a phenomenon has been happening for many years. That’s why many teaching staff combine their scientific and didactic activity in several universities in order to secure a salary or more”, said Topală.
Following a decision approved by the Government on July 13, the State University of Moldova is reorganizing by absorbing the Academy of Public Administration, the State University of Physical Education and Sports and several Institutes.
