Anatolie Nosatyi: Assistance from Romanian with involvement of military units is not possible

The Ministry of Defense said that if the Russian Federation stages an attack on the Republic of Moldova, the National Army will defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country. However, Anatolie Nosatyi said there are no threats to Moldova’s security for now and the Russian military forces are now concentrated on the conquering of Donbas, while Ukraine’s resistance prevents the redirection of the frontline to the regions of Odessa and Mykolaiv, IPN reports.

The minister noted that the danger of war is for now far from Moldova. The official messages from Russia are reconciliatory and the Moldova authorities are assured that the so-called military operation does not embrace the Republic of Moldova.

“The danger didn’t disappear, but it is much better than at the end of February. The situation changed considerably in Ukraine. The military actions are now further from the Republic of Moldova’s borders. Ukraine’s actions moved the frontline far from Mykolaiv, Odessa. Owing to the international effort to support Ukraine with armament, the country can defend the coastline of the Black Sea, including its airspace, which is very favorable for us. The heaviest battles are given in the eastern part,” Anatolie Nosatyi stated in the program “Black Box” on TV8 channel.

The minister said that if Moldova is engaged in the war, the National Army will fulfill its duty. The possibility of mobilizing particular categories of citizens is being considered. Romania, as a NATO member state, will be unable to offer assistance to the Republic of Moldova. It could only supply military equipment and armament.

“We have now 6,500 troops, but the number is increased, depending on the danger, through mobilization. We hope we will not reach the situation when we are attacked, but we must be ready to defend ourselves. Direct assistance from Romanian with the involvement of military units is not possible. We have the example of Ukraine, which has close relations with Poland, but Poland’s military units are not engaged in fighting. In difficult situations, assistance can be offered in the form of armament and equipment,” stated the minister.

He noted that the National Army consists of 6,500 military personnel and 2,000 civilian personnel.
