Moldova's best-rated female tennis player Anastasia Vdovenco refused to play for the national team at the Fed Cup. Preferring a training camp abroad, she won't be there to help the national team against Estonia in the third value group of the Euro/Africa zone, IPN reports.
“Anastasia's training camp was planned long ago and we found only later that the Fed Cup schedule was changed”, head of the Moldovan Tennis Federation Marina Tauber said during a press conference.
The games in the third group of Fed Cup will take place between February 5 and 8, in Estonia. Moldova will be represented by Daniela Ciobanu, Iulia Helbet, Gabriela Porubin and Elvira Juravliova.
Only 2 of the 13 teams in the third group will qualify to the second group of the Fed Cup. In 2013, Moldova's team missed qualification to the second group after a final defeat to Egypt.
