Ana Ursachi: Path for cleaning of justice system will be opened by a new political class

Renowned lawyer Ana Ursachi considers authentic reforms in the justice sector in the Republic of Moldova can be started only if here is a pro-European parliamentary majority. She developed the issue in the talk show “Space of Freedom” with Lilia Burakovski, IPN reports.

Ana Ursachi said the regime built and controlled now by fugitive oligarch Vlad Plahorniuc is a challenging inheritance, including in the justice sector, given also the fabricated resonant cases, the vicious circle of collective responsibility and many others.

“The country needs an upright, pro-European parliamentary majority. Laws that can contribute to the start of reforms can be adopted only under such an arrangement. What has been called “reforms” until now cannot enjoy credibility among the citizens of Moldova and among the foreign partners,” stated the lawyer.

She noted the activity of the prosecutor general is sabotaged within the prosecution service so that those who are to blame for the appearance of political cases by order could avoid responsibility.

“During the rule of Plahotniuc and after Dodon entered the depletion regime after 2019, in the judiciary, the prosecution service and the bar high-ranking officials started to sabotage the activity in the areas of which they are in charge. The consequences of the activity of persons who serve Plahotniuc will yet cause damage to us if measures to clean the system are not taken. The path for cleaning of the justice system will be opened by a new political class, a new class in the judiciary, a new class in the prosecution service, a new class in the bar,” stated Ana Ursachi.
