The Party “The Right” is interested in identifying a common candidate for the presidential elections if this will be a good unionist, who will unrestrainedly promote the union desideratum, the party’s leader Ana Gutu said in the public debate “Common candidate of the right in the presidential elections: necessity and possibility, advantages and disadvantages”, which is the 57th installment of the series “Developing political culture by public debates”.
According to Ana Gutu, the 25 years of experience of Moldova showed that no matter who is in power and who the President is, either this is elected by Parliament or by each citizen apart, the situation in the country does not change and things continue to go bad. “During 25 years, we witnessed only failures, except probably for the signing and ratification of the Moldova - EU Association Agreement, which represented anchoring in the European area,” she stated.
The leader of “The Right” said the party considers Moldova’s President must become directly involved in foreign policy. “We look at the post of Head of State from the perspective of the capability of the future President to internationalize the idea of Moldova’s union with Romania. We look only at the West. That’s why the identification of a candidate for the presidential elections will interest us if this candidate is a good unionist who will unrestrictedly promote the union desideratum,” said Ana Gutu.
She expressed her concern about the fact that the rules of the game for the October 30 presidential elections haven’t been yet announced and about the correctness and representativeness of the future elections when about 25% of the Moldovans are abroad.
“Do the citizens of the Republic of Moldova have access to electoral democracy? What about the 1 million Moldovans from the diaspora who cannot vote electronically, by mail or by power of attorney? This million is 25% of the about 4 million Moldovans. The register of voters includes 3.2 million people at a time when four Moldovans leave the country each hour and 500 children leave Moldova annually to become reunited with their families,” stated Ana Gutu.
However, given that the number of unionists is on the rise, the leader of “The Right” considers that any election must be used to promote the idea of unionism.
The public debate “Common candidate of the right in the presidential elections: necessity and possibility, advantages and disadvantages” is the 57th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are organized with the assistance of the German Foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
