The trade unions of Moldova discredited the trade union movement when they pronounced against Ion Sturza’s candidacy for premiership, ex-Liberal reformist lawmaker Ana Gutu said in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.
“The behavior of the trade union leaders runs counter to the philosophy of trade union movement. It is for the first time that the trade unions, which are always in opposition to the Government, expressed their opinion from the position of a ruling party. Actually, the trade union movement seems inexistent in our country. For a long time, I haven’t heard trade unions mounting protests to demand to raise salaries or improve working conditions,” said the politician.
Ana Gutu welcomed the nomination by President Nicolae Timofti of Ion Sturza for the post of Prime Minister. “This means that some of the state institutions in Moldova still work and that we are not a feudal state where someone comes with a lot of money and dictates their own laws,” she stated.
The former MP voiced hope that Ion Sturza will not give up presenting his government program in Parliament. “I hope he will not get scared and will present the program. The people must know this program and must know that there are other alternatives,” she added.
Ana Gutu last autumn announced the launch of a new unionist political project. The initiative group that formed the nucleus of the future party included a number of politicians who separated themselves from the Liberal Party and founded the Liberal Reformist Party as well as former political detainee Ilie Ilascu.
