AMN, PLDM renounce electoral debates on Eu TV
The Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) and the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) announce they won't participate in the electoral debates held by Eu TV, arguing that the editorial policy of this TV station would be totally subordinated to the People's Christian Democratic Party (PPCD), an ally of the Communists Party (PCRM), Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a joint statement, the two electoral competitors explain their decision to renounce the debates by a number of reasons. “First, we draw the attention of the public and of the broadcasting regulating authority that Eu TV works outside the legal plane, after SRTv (Romanian Public Television) withdrew the right to relay the programs of the Romanian Public Television, on reason of exploiting SRTv's image, in sheer contradiction with the acceptance and principles of this institution,” reads the statement.
The two electoral competitors find that Eu TV introduced a new program into its schedule – 'Epicentru electoral', which follows the debates. “Knowing the editorial policy of the authors of 'Epicentru', we understand the goal of this new program is to denigrate the electoral competitors and to distort their messages,” say the AMN and the PLDM.
“Third, our decision is grounded on the appreciation of the fraudulent way in which the PPCD and the PCRM got grasp of the former municipal stations from Chisinau, Euro TV Chisinau and Radio Antena C, that they transformed into party-owned media tools and openly use them in the electoral campaign to polish the image of the ruling red-orange coalition and to denigrate the opposition parties,” reads the joint statement. The PLDM and the AMN call on other electoral competitors to join their stance.
On the other hand, Igor Burciu, the news director of Eu TV, called the joint statement of the two parties as “wicket, grounding on a false deduction.” In an address aired in Eu TV's news bulletin, Burciu underlined the station was not working illegally, specifying they had signed a contract with SRTv and were negotiating a new agreement with the Romanian television. As for the new broadcast, Igor Burciu said the station submitted the draft of a new program schedule to the Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC) and will further work by observing the law.
Burciu said the AMN and the PLDM participated in drawing lots to establish the order of attending debates and had no objection then. “But when they found they will have to confront with the PPCD, they pull back as cowards,” said the news director of Eu TV.
