AMN faction from CMC accuses President Voronin of reluctance in cooperating with democratic majority from the capital

In the sitting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) on Thursday, May 15, the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) faction uttered a declaration accusing the top leadership of restricting the rights of the local public administration, what runs counter the Local Autonomy Charter signed by Moldova. “The destructive efforts of the Communist government are manifest especially in terms of financial autonomy, disbursing investments, illegally creating the territorial directions controlling the local public administration,” said councilor Mihai Magdei, who read out the document. “It's revolting that President Voronin, who used to often attend the sittings of the Chisinau City Hall when it was managed by a pupet of the Communists, now refuses to cooperate with the councilors with democratic views who form the majority in the Council,” said the AMN councilor. Mihai Magdei opined that, “being mastered by a pathological fear of failing in the parliamentary elections of 2009”, the top leadership refuses to consult the representatives of the territorial administrations in developing and adopting the legislation concerning the local public administration. In response, the CMC Communists' leader, Svetlana Popa, has said: “I'm glad the democratic coalition and especially AMN have understood that, ruling in the Chisinau City Hall, they are capable of doing nothing without President Voronin.” AMN has suggested President Vladimir Voronin to organize a general assembly with the local officials elected to discuss current issues. The idea has been skeptically commented by Communist councilor Alexandru Roman, who asked if there can be found a room in Moldova, to hold as many as 12,000 people.
