AMN asks for prosecuting “president Voronin’s dictatorship”

The Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) maintains that the first thing it will do when getting to power is investigating the acts of corruption and violation of human rights committed by the present governance. The AMN parliamentary faction submitted on Monday, March 30, a legislative initiative, that provides constituting an investigating committee “for elucidating the consequences of the dictatorial regime of the Moldovan president, Vladimir Voronin,” Info-Prim Neo reports. “No one can leave the governance unless his work during the governing years is appreciated to its just value,” AMN president Serafim Urecheanu stated at a news conference. The AMN leader asserts that the investigation of the encroachments made by the previous governances is a normal democratic practice. “The initiative of the Senators of the US Congress to create a committee that will investigate the frauds made by the previous US leadership is an example that Moldova should follow,” Urecheanu said. According to him, the committee should display maximum competence and equidistance. That is why qualified jurists, experts in the international law and the civil society must be involved in its activity, and its work must unfold in conditions of maximum transparency. „Reestablishing justice and lawfulness is the main purpose of the anti-corruption campaign, and one of the results must also be recuperating the losses of billions lei brought to people by Voronin’s clan, and the money we shall draw from those who committed corruption acts will be targeted to increase salaries, pensions, to discharge social payments to the poorest people,” Serafim Urecheanu added. The AMN leader looked sure of the victory of the democratic forces during the elections of April 5, 2009. “Forming a democratic Government is a decided thing, because most democratic parties that will enter the Parliament have stated their stance in this sense. The AMN assumes full responsibility to form the future coalition, after the parliamentary elections,” Urecheanu said. The same day, the AMN asked the General Prosecutor’s Office to start a penal procedure regarding the statements for media by former general director of the “Moldova-Vin” Department and director of the “Aroma” Cognac Factory Semion Leva. He stated for a publication that, starting with 2003, the factory was captured by the circle of interests of Oleg Voronin, president Voronin’s son. A markup for each bottle was established at the factory for taking advantage from the brand “Belai Aist,” going to a levy fund of the PCRM, personally controlled by the president. In this way, during 5 years, over $20 million have been defalcated from the state budget. The AMN also asked the international supervisors to get involved in checking the information that 150 thousand ballot papers are being printed at one of the secret printing houses of “Voronin’s clan,” and they could be used to rig the elections, Urecheanu added.
