American support for the Republic of Moldova

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi, who are on a working visit to Washington, held talks with senior American officials. One of the main meetings was with Samantha Power, administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), IPN reports.

The dignitaries discussed USAID's support to Moldova, with a focus on energy security, economic development and strengthening democratic institutions.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi praised the generous assistance of USAID, which has contributed to the modernization of the state and support for its European course.

"Thanks to USAID, we have developed competitive industries, improved infrastructure and managed to promote Moldovan products on international markets", he said.

Samantha Power reiterated USAID's commitment to support the Republic of Moldova in achieving its modernization and sustainable development goals.

The Head of the Legislature, Igor Grosu, emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership with the USA and the impact of USAID-supported projects in various fields - agriculture, education, infrastructure and tourism. "With USAID funding, we are building power lines to connect us to the European grid, developing innovative industries, modernizing kindergartens and schools, restoring cultural and tourist heritage, modernizing light industry, and the list goes on. We rely on USAID support to build a competitive, innovative and resilient Moldova", said Igor Grosu.

The President of the Parliament also spoke about the efforts of the Chisinau authorities in the face of the challenges posed by Russia's hybrid war and added that "the main objective is to have the country ready for EU accession by 2030.

Igor Grosu participated in the Forum organized by the Hudson Institute, where he spoke about energy security and the defense of democracy in Moldova.

"Russia is using hybrid warfare tactics to undermine our stability. It is essential that we act quickly and in a coordinated way to prevent new threats," the President of the Parliament stressed.

Igor Grosu and Mihai Popsoi, are on a working visit to the USA until December 9, with the aim of strengthening relations between the Republic of Moldova and the United States.
