American Film Festival opens in Chisinau

The eighth edition of the American Film Festival will feature sixteen American movies of a wide range of genres. The event takes place at the Gaudeamus Cultural Center from April 11 to April 17. The theme of this year’s festival is “Great American Directors.” “It's a Wonderful life” directed by Frank Capra opens the festival on April 11 at 6pm, IPN reports.

Three movies will be screened on April 12: “Wall-e” directed by Andrew Stanton (2:30pm), “Something's Gotta Give” by Nancy Meyers (4.30pm), and “Schindler’s List” by Steven Spielberg (7pm).

The April 13 program includes the following movies: the animated cartoon “Ratatoille” by Brad Bird (12 noon), “Roman Holiday” by William Wyler (2pm), “The Shining” by Stanley Kubrick (4pm), and “Djago Unchained” by Quentin Tarantino (7pm).

By two movies will be shown the next two days, at 4:30pm and at 7pm: “All Quiet on the Western Front” by Lewis Milestone and “The Producers” by Mel Brooks on April 14, and “The Apartment” by Billy Wilderiar and “The Godfather” by Francis Ford Coppola on April 15.

“Raising Arizona” by Joel Coen will be screened on April 16, at 5pm, while “The Departed” with Leonardo DiCaprio, directed by Martin Scorsese, at 7pm. On the last day of the festival, there will be shown “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Ford (4:30pm) and the comedy “Ocean’s Eleven” by Lewis Milestone (7pm).

The entrance to all screenings is free of charge. All sixteen movies will be screened in English, with Romanian subtitles. The American Film Festival is organized with the support of the U.S. Embassy.
