America Days have started

Moldovans were able to find out more about American culture, cuisine, sports, but also about the films and projects supported by the USA in Moldova, at America Days, which took place today, September 6, in the “Steven the Great and the Holy” Public Garden. The event is organized by the Embassy of the United States of America in the Republic of Moldova, and it will continue in five other cities of the country until September 15, IPN reports.

Present at the inauguration event, US Ambassador Dereck Hogan said that by means of America Days, he intended to bring a part of the United States to Moldova.

According to the ambassador, since the Republic of Moldova acquired its independence, the US has invested a lot to help Moldova strengthen its economy, fight corruption, improve regional security and increase transparency and accountability. "I hope that during these days you will learn how our assistance has contributed to improving the lives of citizens across the country," said the diplomat.

Dereck Hogan also says he hopes that all Moldovans will vote at the local elections on October 20, urging the authorities to ensure that these elections are free, fair and transparent and that the results reflect the will of the Moldovan people. "The US is ready to cooperate with anyone elected by the Moldovans to represent them at local level," the ambassador said.

Attending the event, Prime Minister Maia Sandu maintained that America Days represented an excellent opportunity to find out about concrete aspects of the bilateral relations between the two states, about concrete projects supported for many years by the US Government, but also about the lifestyle, traditions, and customs of the American people.

"It is an opportunity to reiterate our appreciation for the support we have benefitted from since independence in terms of strengthening democratic processes and institutions, creating and developing economic opportunities." Maia Sandu also mentioned the bilateral partnership between Moldova and North Carolina, which marked this year its 20th anniversary.

America Days will be held on Saturday, September 7, in Tiraspol in "Pobeda" Park, and the next day, on Sunday, in Soroca, in "G. Vieru" Central Park.

Next Friday, September 13, the event will continue in Comrat, in the Culture Center Square. On Saturday, September 14, it will be held in Taraclia, in the Main Square, and on Sunday, September 15, in Balti in the Central Park.
