The Moldovan and Romanian service members will be able to take part in concert in multinational military exercises and training, with units or subunits of other partner states. A bill to this effect was passed by Parliament in the first reading on March 24, IPN reports.
The amendments to the agreement on military cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Romania specify that the host countries will ensure free accommodation and food for service members and civilians who take part in exercises and will be able to take part in joint military exercises together with other states.
Moldova signed a military cooperation agreement with Romania in 2012. A series of common exercises were staged based on this.
In his speech, Socialist MP Vlad Batrancea said the agreement contains a secret part. It is not in Moldova’s interests to take part in military exercises together with counties that do not recognize Moldova as a state.
Liberal MP Liliana Carp said the Socialists never speak about the assistance provided by Romania in different forms. Romania was the first state that recognized Moldova’s independence. This agreement will only help Moldova to ensure better military training.
