The companies that are members of the American Chamber of Commerce are optimistic about the situation of the business community in the Republic of Moldova, said AmCham executive director Mila Malairau. According to her, amid the energy crisis most of the companies invest in modern technologies that enable them to switch over to alternative energy resources, IPN reports.
The AmCham Moldova community consists of over 150 member companies operating in different sectors of the economy. Mila Malairau said the members of AmCham are among the largest taxpayers and their voice is relevant when the problems faced by the business community are addressed.
“The American Chamber of Commerce has worked on the market of the Republic of Moldova for over 15 years. We represent a wide range of industries. The members of the American Chamber of Commerce are the largest investors, the largest employers and the largest taxpayers to the state budget. The over 150 companies account for 20% of the tax on the profit generated by the business community in the Republic of Moldova,” Mila Malairau stated in a meeting of the Economic Press Club.
An opinion poll about the impact of the energy and security crisis on the business community conducted among the members of AmCham Moldova showed that most of the respondents are optimistic that the problems of the businesses in Moldova will be overcome by the concerted efforts of the entrepreneurs and the authorities.
“Of the 150 companies, 45 took part in the poll. 16% said the business climate and the situation in the Republic of Moldova are optimistic. 30% are moderately optimistic. 27% said the situation is neutral. We know that many companies invested and extended their production capacities in the Republic of Moldova. We see the companies aim to modernize and technologize against the background of the energy crisis. Most of the companies said they get ready to overcome the energy crisis and will invest in technologies so as to be less dependent on traditional energy resources. The time is now opportune to encourage these companies’ investments in retechnologization and adjustment to the new realities,” said the AmCham executive director.
In a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu on Wednesday, representatives of AmCham Moldova members said that to overcome the energy crisis, the authorities should provide preferential tax concessions for equipment for producing renewable energy. It was proposed to urgently de-bureaucratize the authorization and putting into operation of projects and to adjust the state financial support mechanisms for projects aimed at ensuring transition to green energy.
