The authorities of Chisinau plan to set up another 100,000 parking places in the capital city during the next two years. According to the city's chief architect Vlad Modarca, there are 37,000 parking places in Chisinau at present, but the number of cars is four times higher and rises by 12% a year, Info-Prim Neo reports. The scheme for underground and multi-story parking garages approved by the Chisinau Municipal Council was worked out by the Institute “Chisinauproiect” on the basis of the General Urban Plan. It will be published on the City Hall's webiste www.chisinau.md. Vlad Modaraca said a number of parking garages are now at the preconstruction stage. They will be built on Ginta Latina St, at the intersection of the streets Pushkin and Varlaam, and behind the Unic Department Store, near the Central Market. According to estimates, the investments in a parking garage can be recouped in 15-20 years. One place in the garage is built at a cost of US$8,000-10,000. Under the scheme, the parking lots existing in Chisinau will be partially or fully replaced with parking garages. The new apartment buildings and shopping centers that will be erected will also have parking areas.
