Ukraine stopped purchasing gas from the Russian Federation on November 8, Ukrainian Ambassador to Moldova Serghii Pyrozhkov said in the program “Politica” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.

The Ukrainian diplomat said that Ukraine collected the necessary reserves of gas and thus no longer needs Russian gas. The underground networks were filled with the quantity of gas needed for the cold season. Ukraine also adopted a very sound eco-energy policy and some industries already replace the gas with coal and new technologies enabling producing an essential part of the industrial goods by using a minimum volume of energy.

Speaking about the Transnistrian conflict, Serghii Pyrozhkov said the presence of the Russian troops on the left bank of the Nistru is a serious threat to Ukraine. The period of validity of about 50% of the 26,000 tonnes of munitions kept in the Transnistrian stores has expired.

The biggest problem is that the munitions stores are located 4 km from the border with Ukraine. In case of an explosion, the Ukrainian side will be more seriously affected. It is a real danger to Ukraine, but the Russian authorities assure that the situation in the area is under control.
