Ambassador to Russia won't be appointed until summer recess, thinks Lupu

Speaker Marian Lupu doesn't think that Moldova's Ambassador to Russia will be appointed until Parliament adjourns for the summer recess. “Today we can't say that we are close to finding a solution to this. I don't think that until the summer recess – with only two weeks left – the problem will find an answer”, Lupu told a meeting with reporters and bloggers. Marian Lupu revealed that this subject hasn't been discussed very zealously and no candidate has been considered. In his opinion, the candidate should be proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which should pick a politically unengaged professional. In late April the Government recalled Ambassador Andrei Neguta from Moscow after he stated in an interview that a premature withdrawal of Russian troops from the Transnistrian region would pose a threat to both Moldova and the entire region. Andrei Neguta served as Ambassador to Russia since 2009. After his recalling there have been reports that Liberal-Democrat Chiril Lucinschi would replace him.
