Ambassador of Romania: We praise as much foundations of our special relationship

“We praise as much the foundations of our special relationship that is based on the common language, culture and history of Romania and the Republic of Moldova,” said Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ioniță. The official transmitted a speech on the National Day of Romania that is celebrated on December 1. “Even if no receptions are held, we are as attached to our political, diplomatic, economic, cultural and other kinds of objectives for the benefit of all the citizens,” stated the diplomat, being quoted by IPN.

“This year, we celebrate 102 years of the Great Union and 100 years of the international recognition of this astral moment in Romania’s history, when all the Romanian provinces said yes and united within the same territory, while the hearts of all the inhabitants beat in unison. It was a benchmark in our modern history, an incontestable proof of the Romanian people’s adherence to the values of freedom, social equity, democracy, mutual respect and tolerance. These are actually the values that Romania continues to promote consistently at internal level and in its foreign policy,” said Daniel Ioniță.

The diplomat also referred to the recent presidential elections, after which the President of Romania and the President-elect of Moldova agreed that the extension and development of the Strategic Partnership for the European Integration of the Republic of Moldova between the two states, which this year marked ten years of its signing, is the main objective in the bilateral relations, for the direct benefit of all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. A first step in this direction is the official visit that the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis will pay to the Republic of Moldova in the immediate period, on the invitation of Missis President Maia Sandu.

“Romania was and will remain a consistent and unreserved supporter of the legitimate aspirations of the citizens and the irreversible European course of the Republic of Moldova, of authorities’ efforts to build solid, modern, really European democratic institutions that would work efficiently only for the direct benefit of the citizens and for implementing the reforms contained in the Association Agreement signed with the European Union. We strongly believe that this is the only guarantee for the stability, security and prosperity of all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” noted the Romanian diplomat.

The official also said that the road to Europe is not always easy, but is always beneficial. It is a path of progress and transformations that necessitates courageous reforms, especially in the justice sector and the fight against corruption, and, if it is covered, its immediate effects will be the consolidation of democracy and the human rights and freedoms of the citizens. Romania will continue to support the Republic of Moldova in these efforts without reservation.
