Poland knows very well that the military threats come from the East, from a concrete country – Russia, and the war in Ukraine demonstrates this, the Ambassador of Poland to the Republic of Moldova, Tomasz Kobzdej, stated in an interview with IPN News Agency. According to the diplomat, Poland was the first country to help Ukraine militarily, financially and humanitarianly to stop the Russian expansionism. The Polish ambassador explained that in his country, there are no divergences as regards the attitude towards the war in Ukraine, either in society or on the political scene.
Poland’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova said that in his country, there is only one common position on the military threats. Russia is an aggressor state that poses an imminent danger both to the security of neighboring countries and to the security of the entire European continent.
“We realize very well where the military, security danger comes from, and this has already been proven by what is happening in Ukraine. Obviously, the threat, the danger comes from the East, from a concrete country – Russia. It is Russia that is creating dangers, not only for Ukraine and not only for NATO’s Eastern flank, but for the entire Euro-Atlantic architecture and for the whole of Europe. The developments in Ukraine are a threat not only to one country, but to the entire continent. Having a very clear perception of these threats, we, as a country, are engaged in discussions with the EU and NATO. We have contingency plans, military plans, defense plans. The threat is very clear and it is a very concrete country – Russia. We don’t have time for much philosophy. Everything is clear. Everything is proven on the front line in Ukraine,” said the Polish official.
According to him, when the war in Ukraine started, Poland was the first state to act firmly, offering military aid to Kyiv from the first days. Polish society and the authorities in Warsaw have a common approach to the war in Ukraine, strongly condemning Russia’s aggression and contributing militarily to stopping it.
“After such a complicated history, the Poles are very united. Our approach to what is happening in Ukraine unites us. It unites the Polish authorities with Polish society. It is amazing how Polish society has acted towards this war, but also towards the enormous wave of refugees we welcomed in Poland. Many were housed in people’s own homes. Poland was among the first countries that in a very concrete way helped Ukraine from humanitarian, financial, but, first of all, military points of view. At the beginning of the war, when they only started to talk about how to react to aggression, Poland already shipped tanks, planes, weapons. I’m proud of our government because we immediately contributed so as to do everything in our power to stop the Russian aggression and imperialism. The Poles are very united in this regard. Here we really do not have any dividing line in society or on the political scene,” explained Tomasz Kobzdej.
The interview with Poland’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Tomasz Kobzdej, was conducted by IPN News Agency as part of the project “Developing Political Culture Through Public Debates”, which is supported by the German “Hanns Seidel” Foundation.
