Ambassador Longsdon: United States and Moldova have a lot to celebrate together

“The United States and the Republic of Moldova have a lot to celebrate together and a lot to accomplish together,” said U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Kent Longsdon, as he shared his thoughts on the 30-year partnership between our countries in a Romanian-language video posted on the Embassy’s Facebook account.

The ‘important partnership between the United States and the Republic of Moldova” started out as an agreement between governments and was built through “human-to-human connections that have been formed since then.” Ambassador Kent Longsdon assured the citizens of Moldova that he will contribute to the strengthening of this partnership. Ten U.S. ambassadors who preceded Kent Longsdon also contributed to this goal. “Our ties are getting stronger every year. Our partnership has helped us cope with a global pandemic. The United States has delivered vaccines that now provide life-saving protection for hundreds of thousands of Moldovans”, he said.

Kent Longsdon noted that, since 1992, the United States has invested more than $1.5 billion in Moldova in all areas, from roads and infrastructure, to agriculture and academia. “Thousands of lives of Moldovans have been improved through these projects (…) This is juts the beginning. We will continue to build our partnership together, based on common values and common interests. I know that our partnership will grow and prosper over the next 30 years”, concluded Kent Longsdon.

The new U.S. ambassador handed over his credentials to President Maia Sandu on February 16. Kent Logsdon told the Moldovan president that he was looking forward to consolidating the strong partnership between our countries.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the bilateral partnership, the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration issued a press release noting that “the USA is among the main investors and development partners of the Republic of Moldova. Over the past three decades, there has been impressive support, technical, financial and in terms of development”.

“On February 18, 1992, the Republic of Moldova and the United States established diplomatic relations, paving the way for the construction of dynamic and steadily deepening bilateral relations based on shared values such as adherence to democracy, the rule of law and protection of human rights”, added the Ministry.
