Ambassador Lazurca says electoral allegations could damage Moldova's EU chances

Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Marius Lazurca has urged the candidates for the Moldovan parliament to abstain from making accusations against his country for electoral purposes, including in order not to lose reputation in front of the EU, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The recent period has been very important for Moldova on its way towards European integration, during which the governmental institutions have proved their dynamism and professionalism, and the European institutions have responded with promptitude and interest to these ambitions”, said Marius Lazurca at a news conference on Friday. In this context, the ambassador said he was surprised that the candidates pay little attention to European integration matters in their debates and also that certain political forces have employed accusations and insinuations against Romania, which has always been an advocate for Chisinau's European ambitions. Without naming any particular electoral contender, the Romanian ambassador advised that none of the EU members, especially Romania, should be subject to attacks and insinuations during the campaign. Marius Lazurca in particular rejected the recent allegations of the Moldovan Communists that Romania endorses the Alliance for European Integration during the campaign. Concerning the Communists' allegations about secret and dubious arrangements between Bucharest and Chisinau on flood control measures, Lazurca called them “untruth that doesn't deserve a better answer than a shrug”. “Romania wouldn't want to see Moldova's existing chance of approaching the EU be wasted because of an election campaign”, Lazurca said.
