Ambassador Andrieu: France firmly believes in Moldova's European future

France is decided to further support Moldova on its road to European integration, because we firmly believe in its European future, declared French Ambassador to Chisinau Pierre Andrieu in an interview with the “Timpul” newspaper, on the occasion of the national holiday of France on July 14. “We have saluted the announcement that the European Commission will start considering a new legal arrangement for the Republic of Moldova. We also hope that Moldova will succeed in implementing all the reforms needed for the European integration” said Pierre Andrieu. When asked what he thinks about Moldova's progress in implementing reforms, the French ambassador remarked that, although much has been done, there are areas where the Moldovan authorities should boost reforms: human rights, countering corruption, freedom of press, and the business climate. Concerning the business relations, Pierre Andrieu has said that he is pleased to know that France is one of the largest foreign investors in our country. According to him, foreign investments will undoubtedly continue to come owing to the geographical position of the country – bridging the European Union markets and the eastern ones – and also due to its workforce, because many Moldovans are highly skilled and speak different foreign languages, including French. There are certain interested companies which are trying to find out “how the business smells like here”, the French ambassador revealed. Celebrated each year on July 14, the storming of the Bastille (1789), or simply the Bastille Day, is seen as a symbol of the uprising of the modern French nation and of the reconciliation of all the French.
