Alternative heating systems pose a threat to humans, conference

The individual heating systems as an alternative to the centralized system apparently bring savings, but can pose a real threat to the lives of persons, to ecology and the country’s energy security. The horizontal heat distribution system is a solution, director general of the company “Termoelectrica” Veaceslav Eni stated in the international conference “Efficient urban heating: solutions and challenges” that is held in Chisinau on October 19-20, IPN reports.

According to Veaceslav Eni, a tendency to disconnect homes from the centralized thermal energy system is witnessed in many towns of the country, including in the municipality of Chisinau. The people install alternative heating systems that can become dangerous and even fatal. The supplier is testing individual horizontal heat distribution points in a number of old apartment buildings. Owing to this system, the consumer can start or stop the supply of heat whenever they want and there is not risk that CO2 will be emitted. Also, up to 30% of the value of the heat bill is saved.

Tudor Copaci, director general of the National Agency for Energy Regulation, said “Termoelectrica” set off on a new development path that can attract investments and improve the quality of services. “I personally use the services of SA “Termoelectrica”. During the past few years, the quality of services improved and the continuity of services has been ensured. This is very important for end-users,” stated Tudor Copaci.

The Representative of the World Bank in Moldova Sandu Ghidirim noted “Termoelectrica” comes with a new approach compared with its predecessors and this centers on the consumers and optimization of costs, increase of operational functionality of the sector and provision of a high-quality service. The company ensures the nonstop supply of hot water, which has never been done before. “The centralized thermal energy system is the only solution for supplying environmentally-friendly thermal energy that does not negatively influence public hearth to consumers,” he stated.

Mihai Târșu, director of the Energy Institute of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, said a study showed that very large quantities of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and other noxious substances are emitted when using individual heating systems. Compared with the centralized heating system, the individual heat points cause by 86% more emissions as the cogeneration chance is missed. The process of disconnecting apartments from the centralized heating system was at its apogee in 2003-2004, but diminished in 2018.

Vasile Munteniță, president of the Professional Association COGEN Romania, said 23,000 people die annually in Romania owing to air pollution and Romania cannot be considered an example of success in the energy efficiency sector. The effects of alternative installations are disastrous and it is the task of the authorities to make this known

The conference will continue on October 20 with trips to the Thermoelectric Plant, Source I, Pumping Stations No. 1 and No. 8 and an apartment building with autonomous centralized heating system.
