Almost half of Moldovan migrants have salaries of US$500 to US$1,000

45% of the Moldovans who went abroad have an average salary of US$500 to US$1,000, shows the study “Migration of Labor Force” carried out by the National Bureau of Statistics. According to the study, over 13% of the migrants have pays of over US$1,000, while 8.9% earn under US$500 a month, IPN reports.

The money received from abroad in 89% of the cases is spent on food clothes, and public utilities. It is also spent on the purchase, repair or building of homes. Half of the money is transferred home by money transfer systems. In over 30% of the cases, the migrants prefer to personally bring the earned money home.

Some 56.5% of the migrants work in the construction sector, 18.7% provide services to private households, while 9.7% are involved in trade.

Over 2/3 or 69.2% of the migrants work or worked in Russia, 14.2% in Italy, 2.5% in Israel, France and Turkey. 76.5% of the migrants said they went abroad owing to the low salaries. Among other reasons invoked are the lack of workplaces and the poor working conditions.

Some 96.1% of the migrants managed to find a job abroad, including in a relatively short period of time. In the destination country, 90.5% of the migrants attended training or professional formation courses. The Moldovan migrants practically do not ask for the official recognition or equaling of studies (diplomas/ certificates).

The study shows that 28% of the Moldovan migrants return home because they have family responsibilities or because they achieved their goal. Among other reasons mentioned for the return are the poor working conditions, the low salaries, cheating and uncertainty.

Almost 60% of the migrants are married. The average age of the migrants is 36.6 years for men and 38.5 years for women.
