Almost 60 cars confiscated on Moldova’s territory to become scrap metal
A number of 57 vehicles confiscated on the territory of Moldova will be earmarked for scarp metal the next years, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a draft decision published on the Ministry of Finance’s website.
According to Minister of Finance Veaceslav Negruta, the units of transport were confiscated during the last few years following the ban imposed on using cars older than allowed on Moldova’s territory.
Some of these vehicles were probably stolen, but were not reported as stolen in the country from where they were brought. A part of them have the status of abandoned goods. “The given units of transport became state property and are dealt with by the local tax inspectorates. But they are on the territory of customs offices or companies and the state incurs costs for storing them. Making them scrap metal is regarded as the best solution,” said the minister.
Veaceslav Negruta confirmed that some of the vehicles have owners. “They can take the cars back to the persons from whom they bought them, abroad. But I don’t think they will do it as these vehicles cannot be sold or registered. They can be used neither for spare parts,” he said.
