As many as 5 920 kilometers of road have been repaired during the first six months of this year, including 2 850 km of national roads, said Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Anatol Salaru, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “Owing to the larger amounts collected into the Road Fund, for the first time we were able to plan major works like covering of roads with bitumen, besides road maintenance, stopping up works and ensuring of road safety. The price of a tonne of asphalt purchased by tender contest fell by 15%,” said the minister. In the period, there were also set up over 7 000 road signs and 37 modern pavilion s for travelers. More than 20,000 saplings were planted in areas where the risk of landslides is higher. A sum of 787.98 million lei was earmarked in the Road Fund for 2011.
