Almost 3,000 refugees from Ukraine are in placement centers in Moldova

Approximately 50 temporary placement centers for refugees with a population of 2,900 people who fled from the war in Ukraine work at present in Moldova, IPN reports.

“This year we have continued to manage the refugee crisis, which is not yet over. We continue to manage a network of nearly 50 temporary placement centers for refugees with a population of 2,900 refugees,” Minister of Labor and Protection Alexei Buzu told a news conference.

The official noted that most of the refugees are women, children, elderly people and people with disabilities.

According  to officials of the General Inspectorate for Migration, since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, more than 100,000 Ukrainian refugees have come to Moldova, but not all of them chose to stay. About 24,000 applied for temporary protection, approximately 7,000 obtained a residence permit, while 2,400 obtained the nationality of the Republic of Moldova.

On Wednesday, the Cabinet approved a bill according to which refugees from Ukraine will benefit from temporary protection in Moldova even after the state of emergency is lifted.
