Almost 150 cases of measles confirmed by lab tests

A number of 142 cases of measles have been confirmed by lab tests so far this year. There are also 63 suspected case. Most of the cases were recorded in August. The districts of Ceadâr-Lunga, Vulcănești, Ungheni, Taraclia, Cahul and Hâncești were the worst hit the past week, IPN reports.

The National Public Health Agency created a special rubric on ansp.md so as to daily update the data about measles in connection with the orange code advisory for measles announced on August 20.

The disease spreads rapidly. A hotbed appeared at the start of August when a child from Ceadir Lunga, who returned from a visit to Ukraine infected, was at a camp in Morenii Noi village of Ungheni district together with almost 100 persons who were mainly from the southern districts of the country.

The measures that will be taken in the immediate period to prevent the spread of infection include the vaccination of children and adults who weren’t immunized. Health professionals were entrusted with the task of determining by September 1 children who weren’t vaccinated and of having discussions with parents so as to persuade them to have the children immunized. The unvaccinated children could be not allowed to study. The authorities warned vaccination is the safest method of protection against measles.
