Nearly 1,000 acts of pickpocketing have been committed in public transport in Chisinau so far this year. Over 70% of these were committed in minibuses, while the rest in trolleybuses and less in buses. Usually, the thieves steal mobile phones and wallets, IPN reports.
The Chisinau Police Division said most of the cases of theft were reported in the minibuses running on routes No.103,171,191,121,116 and 166. The police carried out a number of activities to warn and inform minibus drivers how to act to avoid stealing attempts.
The passengers are also warned to be prudent in public transport. When they wait for public units of transport in stations, they should pay attention to persons nearby who have a suspect behavior. The money for the trip should be prepared beforehand, before getting into the vehicle.
The passengers are also recommended to avoid reading during the trip and not to keep the money and other things in back pockets. The bags should be kept in sight. Most of the thieves are dressed elegantly and can be of different ages.
Those who became victims of pickpockets should call 902.
