Allowances for parents and teachers who will opt for schools with more than 50 students

The parents or legal representatives of students could get a monthly allowance of €50 for increasing access to education if they decide to enroll their children in a school other than those with fewer than 50 students. Similar allowances will be given to teachers of small schools on condition that they go to teach in another institution. This is provided in a draft law to amend the Education Code which was approved by the Cabinet, IPN reports.

Minister of Education Dan Perciun said that the “Model School” project is to be implemented and this involves the creation of a network of 35 district educational institutions in which up to €2 million will be invested so that they are modernized and meet the European education standards.

“It comes to an allowance of €50 for parents who currently have children in schools with fewer than 50 students. The approved amendments to the Education Code refer specifically to this allowance, which is instituted and will be available from September. It is intended for parents who voluntarily will accept to go to a better school and give their children the chance to receive high-quality education,” explained the minister.

According to the draft law, the allowance for increasing access to education is granted monthly, for a period of two years, and is calculated from the date of enrollment of the student in the new public primary or secondary education institution. The allowance will not be paid during June-August inclusive.

The draft law is to be examined and adopted by Parliament.
