All roads lead to early elections, analysts

The current political situation in Moldova is critical and, if the parties of the former Alliance for European Integration (AEI) do not find a solution, the early legislative elections are inevitable. A number of political analyst told IPN that there are several possible ways out of the crisis, but it is very hard to implement them owing to categorical positions.

Political analyst Corneliu Ciurea said the formation of the AEI - 3 is the best solution for forming a new Government, with another Premier who will represent the PLDM. This is the most plausible scenario judging by the made statements.

An alliance between the PLDM and PCRM would be a monstrous one, which would make the situation in society tense and would discredit the anticommunist political forces.

According to Corneliu Ciurea, there is also the solution of early elections. “The elections are a democratic solution and solve a crisis situation when the parties cannot come to terms,” he said.

Political analyst Mihai Cernencu stated the early ejections are very close and a new government will not be created already. “Those from the former AEI haven’t reached an agreement yet. There will be early elections. The election period started on January 6, when the hunting case in the Domneasca Forest became known,” he said, adding that the recent decisions to increase the pensions and salaries are an additional argument supporting his forecasts.

He also said that if agreements are reached to exclude the PL from the government coalition, they will not last long and early elections will anyway take place.

Analyst Anatol Taranu said a new Government headed by Vlad Filat is the most successful formula. “The PLDM has most of the seats of MP within the coalition and it is natural for it to propose its leader for the post of Premier. Vlad Filat has the necessary experience to achieve the European integration goal. Any other political configuration would throw the European course into question and this is definitely unnecessarily in the current conditions,” he stated, adding that owing to the intransigent position of the PL leader Mihai Ghimpu, such a solution may fail to be implemented.

Earlier, President Nicolae Timofti said he will put forward the candidate for premiership on April 5.
