All residential blocks in Moldova will be examined

The Agency for Construction and Territorial Development will inspect all the apartment blocks in the Republic of Moldova in an attempt to avert the possible dramatic consequences as a result of earthquakes. Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev made such a request at the Government’s meeting on October 31. He did not specify yet how the problems that will be identified by experts should be solved. The problem of old buildings in the country was raised by the Premier during discussions on the blast in the Soroca apartment building. The Cabinet members remained silent for a minute in memory of the victims of the tragic accident and decided to give their one-day salary to support them. All the heads of the institutions administered by the Government are expected to do the same. The Premier instructed the officials in charge to assess the damage caused to every family apart and to fix the sum of the benefits that they will receive from the state. Five persons, including a firefighter, were killed in the explosion in Soroca town that occurred last week.
