All polling stations were opened

All 1442 polling stations, of which 307 in Chisinau, organized for the second round of the general local elections, were opened at 07.00. Incidents were recorded at two polling stations in the capital, but they were remedied, and the electoral process takes place under normal conditions, IPN reports.

At a press briefing, Dorin Cimil, the chairman of the Central Election Commission, said that the first incident was registered at polling station number 253 in Ciocana sector, where a power cut occurred due to repair works in the area. While at polling station no. 113 it was difficult to open the safe where the computers were kept. According to the head of the CEC, the problems have been eliminated and the electoral process goes on normally.

Dorin Cimil has mentioned that over 1.6 million citizens with voting rights are registered on the voter rolls for the second round of elections. At the same time, 768 candidates are fighting for the 384 mayoral mandates. The candidate who accumulates the highest number of votes is considered the winner, regardless of the number of voters that go to the polls.

Information on the voting process is to be presented at 13.00. Furthermore, at 22:00, the CEC will present preliminary data on the election results.

For the second round of the general local elections, 1,696,664 ballot papers have been printed, of which 1,289,076 in Romanian and 407 568 in Russian. 635 921 ballots will be used for the election of general mayor of Chisinau municipality.

The polling stations will be open until 21.00.
