All EU countries are Moldova’s friends, ambassadors

The European Parliament’s vote in favor of abolishing the visa regime is a very important step for Moldova and for the Eastern Partnership. This vote showed that Moldova is supported and all the EU countries are its friends. Such an opinion was stated by European ambassadors invited to the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Sweden’s Ambassador for the Eastern Partnership Martin Hagstrom said that Moldova is a country that implements reforms and that fulfills the European integration plan. “This vote is important for the Eastern Partnership too as it shows that if the country does what it should, it has accomplishments,” he stated. As to the rise in investments, the official said that if the European citizens have confidence in Moldova, they will invest here. “When you have the same standards, it’s easier for companies to take this decision,” said the ambassador, adding that Sweden doesn’t know much about Moldova and the Moldovan products and thus Moldova should make effort to make itself known. “You must try and take all the occasions.”

Latvian Ambassador for the Eastern Partnership Juris Poikans said that responsibility is the price that will have to be paid for the vote in favor of abolishing the visa regime. “This is very great trust. It is an important decision and the process is the key element. If it runs well, it will open very great opportunities for the people in many areas, including education, traveling, business, and investments,” he stated.

Lithuania’s Ambassador for the Eastern Partnership Vaidotas Verba said the Vilnius EaP Summit was unique as 25 leaders from 28 member states came to the event, showing how important it was. “The European Union realizes that it must support its neighbors,” he stated, adding that the visas are a kind of restriction for persons who are not very wanted somewhere.

Hungary’s Ambassador Gabor Brodi said the vote in the European Parliament is important not only for Moldova, but also for other EaP member states. “There is an offer and there are conditions and if these conditions are met, one achieves success,” said the ambassador. The official also said that after the visa regime is abolished, Moldova will have to improve its infrastructure and communication so as to ensure free movement. “Real progress will be made when champagne travels to the EU without customs duties”.

The European Parliament decided to abolish the visa requirements for Moldovans on February 27.
