The Government approved the package of decisions that provide the instruments needed to implement the common emergency telephone number 112, IPN reports.
Two weeks ago, when instructing the competent ministries to finalize these decisions, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said that if this service had been functional, the gas cylinder exposition at the Chisinau-based café “La soacra” or the death in the Bashtovoi family wouldn’t have happened.
“The use of the common emergency telephone number shows the civilization degree of the country,” stated the Premier.
112 is the common emergency telephone number that can be dialed free of charge from mobile telephones and fixed telephones in order to reach emergency services (ambulance, fire and rescue, police). Its utilization will allow to appropriately and efficiently organize the emergency services all over the country, in accordance with the requirements of the EU. This service is now used in all the EU member states.
The feasibility study for introducing the common emergency telephone number 112 was carried out following a memorandum signed by the ICT Ministry and partners from Sweden (Nordic Investment Bank).
Given the reorganization of the emergency services based on the new conception, the Ministry of Finance suggested assessing and optimizing the current emergency services by rechanneling the financial resources to the new service.
