“All the lawmakers of the AEI will put their signatures in support of the candidate for the presidency Marian Lupu,” the president of honor of the PDM Dumitru Diacov said after the December 8 sitting of Parliament, Info-Prim Neo reports. “After all the signatures are put, the official candidate of the AEI will discuss with all the parliamentary groups and the factions will then take a decision whether to take part in the voting or not,” said Dumitru Diacov. The head of the PL Mihai Ghimpu said the Liberal MPs signed in the morning, but not the signatures, but the votes are important in reality. “We need the head of state to be elected more than Marian Lupu. We either elect the President or have early legislative elections,” he stated. Valeriu Strelet, the leader of the Liberal-Democratic faction, said all the Liberal-Democrat MPs will sign in favor of Marian Lupu. “It is an ordinary procedure that should be performed in an organized way, not by collecting signatures in corridors,” he said, adding the faction waits for Marian Lupu to come and present his objectives and priorities. The candidates for the presidency are registered after they confirm they are supported by at least 15 MPs. The deadline for applications is December 13, 7pm. The presidential elections will take place on December 16.
