The obtaining of financing through the Connecting Europe Facility for projects to improve Moldova’s access ways was accelerated by Ukraine’s necessity to have more ways of access to the European states and by the good performance of the current government of Moldova, PAS MP Alina Dandara stated in a public debate hosted by IPN.
The parliamentarian of the ruling party noted that there are a series of factors that helped Moldova obtain much greater opportunities to improve its road infrastructure, the ways of access to the EU. Moldova now enjoys greater international openness and the Connecting Europe Facility is a method of cooperation.
“I think the European Union offered this credit of trust because the Republic of Moldova already obtained the EU candidate status. It is a process that can accelerate particular reforms and can facilitate our efforts, including at economic level. It was surely hastened by the precarious situation of Ukraine, which can enjoy more ways of access to Europe through the Republic of Moldova. I think the Republic of Moldova obtained this credit of trust also owing to the contribution made by the current government that worked a lot to prove that it deserves this trust,” noted Alina Dandara.
As to the transport sector that is supported by the Connecting Europe Facility the most, the PAS MP said the planned modernizations will facilitate traffic, including commercial one, will lead to the standardization of transport. “I consider the localities that will be crossed by this access ways will also stand to gain as they will be modernized and will enjoy better conditions. We will have better connection, including for talking to the dear ones at lower roaming charges. We will have the chance to strengthen energy security so as to no longer be blackmailed. This will also have an economic impact,” stated Alina Dandara.
The MP reminded that the outbreak of the war in Ukraine generated many difficulties to Moldova exporters that were put in the situation to look for other ways of access and the transport costs grew considerably. In this regard, the projects to modernize the access ways will also help to standardize the transport acquis, to facilitate the transport of goods for Moldovan exporters and the citizens will also benefit as the living standards will improve and will produce a positive social effect.
