Alga wants to mark out territory allocated for dog shelter
Non-Governmental Organization for animal protection “Alga” announces that it will start fencing the territory allotted by the municipal administration for the building of a homeless dog shelter, starting next week. Organization’s president Valentina Dudnic told Info-Prim that if the City Hall does not find money for a shelter that corresponds to current standards, it would do well to allow Alga to a temporary shelter for the dogs. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Deputy Mayor Vlad Cotet said that, without an authorization, Alga's intervention will be deemed illegal and will be stopped by the authorities, reports Info-Prim Neo.
Valentina Dudnic claims that the City Hall estimated the cost of building the shelter at 32 million lei, money which neither the City Hall nor do the animal protection NGOs have. While the search for funds is only being mimed, homeless dogs are still being killed, poisoned and left to die in horrible pain, right in front of children.
Valentina Dudnic believes that a solution would be the fencing of the allocated territory and the temporary sheltering of dogs. The NGO is ready to pay the cost for building the fence. If she doesn’t reach an agreement with the municipal authorities, Valentina Dudnic says she will sue the City Hall. Additionally, Alga will ask President Nicolae Timofti to promulgate the Law on animal protection. Until now, 3,000 signatures for this petition to the President have been gathered, and the list is still open.
Deputy Mayor Vlad Cotet said that the shelter will be built when the project of, at least, 32 million lei will be presented, and when it will fall under all European norms. Any abusive actions will be suspended, as stipulated by the Law.
