Alexei Taran named NAER director

Parliament on Thursday confirmed Alexei Taran as director of the Administration Board of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER), IPN reports.

The head of the Parliament’s commission on economy, budget and finance Dumitru Alaiba said the new director is named for a six-year term.

Socialist Deputy Speaker Vlad Batrîncea said the BSC MPs do not have questions to the candidate, but they will come with a legislative proposal to liquidate the Agency when time comes. They consider NAER is a useless institution that only identifies problems and price rises and its powers should be transferred to the Government.

The National Agency for Energy Regulation is managed by an Administration Board that consists of five directors. One of the posts of director fell vacant following the resignation tendered by Ștefan Creangă. The Agency’s current director general is Veaceslav Untila, while Octavian Calmîc, Eugen Carpov and Violina Șpac serve as directors.

In accordance with the legislation, the directors of the Administration Board are named to post by Parliament as a result of a contest.
