Alexei Ostrovsky: The Transnistrian region must become again part of reintegrated Moldova
Alexei Ostrovsky, Chairman of the Russian Duma's Committee for CIS Affairs, endorses the necessity of identifying a viable solution to the Transnistrian dispute on the basis of Moldova's sovereignty and territorial integrity, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Parliament's press service.
This subject formed the key part of the discussions between Ostrovsky and Moldova's Speaker Marian Lupu, during a meeting on Tuesday. The officials addressed issues related to the settlement of the Transnistrian dispute, emphasizing the fact that a final and viable solution must be reached peacefully.
The Moldo-Russian interparliamentary dialogue has become systematic and offers great opportunities for enhancing the relationship between the two countries with a view to solving problems of reciprocal interest, the two officials noted.
The interlocutors highlighted the fact that the upcoming meeting of the Moldo-Russian Interparliamentary Commission – an event which is due to take place in late June or early July in Chisinau – will give an impetus to the development of the interparliamentary relations between Chisinau and Moscow.
Alexei Ostrovski is on a working visit to Moldova during May 26 -30 at the invitation of the Moldovan Parliament. The Russian official has scheduled meetings with the head of state, the leaders of parliamentary factions, the Minister of Reintegration, and others. The visit agenda also includes a trip to the Transnistrian region.
