Alexei Lungu summoned to NAC, to be classed as suspect

The leader of the political party "Chance" Alexei Lungu was summoned to the National Anticorruption Center in order to be informed of the ordinance to class him as a suspect in a criminal case. The information was confirmed to IPN by the NAC’s spokeswoman Angela Starinschi.

Angela Starinschi said that it goes to a criminal case started over illegal financing of political parties.

The "Chance" party is part of the "Victory" political bloc that was formed a year ago in Moscow by fugitive politician Ilan Shor. Last summer, the activity of the party led by Lungu was restricted. In February, the Central Election Commission asked for the dissolution of the "Chance" party, citing serious irregularities in financial reporting.

A video distributed online shows how Alexei Lungu has discussions at the Chisinau Airport with a law enforcement officer who informs him about the summons and asks him to accompany him. The politician was puzzled by the fact that he cannot go to Istanbul given that, according to him, his legal record is clean.

Another affiliate of fugitive convict Ilan Shor, Bashkan Evgenia Guțul, was arrested on Tuesday evening at Chisinau Airport, from where she intended to take a flight to Istanbul. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, Guțul appears in the information systems on the no-fly list, which is why the border guards informed the competent authorities about her intention to leave the country. The Bashkan’s plan to leave the Republic of Moldova without returning is also being considered as a version. Currently, Guțul is in the custody of the NAC, and prosecutors asked for a warrant for her arrest.
