Alexei Gherțescu confirmed as chairman of Competition Council

Lawyer Alexei Gherțescu was appointed chairman of the Competition Council for a five-year term by the votes of 54 MPs of the Party of Acton and Solidarity on February 17, IPN reports.

Alexei Gherțescu was present in the assembly hall, but the MPs didn’t have questions for the candidate proposed by the Parliament Speaker. After being voted in, Gherțescu took the oath of office.

The new chairman said that he banks on the support of the MPs and he will propose having discussions with representatives of all the parliamentary groups. “I hope a lot we will be able to work together so as to improve things at this institution and to see the expected results,” he stated.

Alexei Gherțescu is a licensed lawyer. He is a bachelor of laws and has a master’s degree in civil law. He worked at the law firm “Alexei Gherțescu”, for private companies and for UNDP Moldova and taught at the Moldova Free International University. He is a member of the Lawyers Union of Moldova.

The former Competition Council chairman Marcel Răducan was dismissed based on his resignation on August 11, 2021.
