Alexei Buzu: There should be more women in future Government

Alexei Buzu, executive director of the Partnership for Developemnt Center, said there should be more women in the future Government, while the ministerial teams  should be more courageous and more determined to implement reforms.

The representative of civil society stated for IPN that it is very important to keep the elan in doing reforms at the Ministry of the Interior and a person who pleads for reforms should be named as minister there. ”The EU plans to allocate large sums of money for reforms in our country. If it does not see a reliable partner in Moldova, we risk not being able to do the reforms,”  stated Alexei Buzu.

An independent person should be appointed at the Ministry of Justice. ”Analyzing the activity of the ministerial team during the last four years, I got the impression that it could have done much more.  It seems to me that the team did not want to go against the system. I think persons from outside the system should be named at the Ministry of Justice to use the public rostrum and say openly who opposes the reforms. The expectations from the Ministry of Economy were also greater. The economic developemnt model remained the same. The energy system is reformed at a very slow pace,” said Alexei Buzu.

He also said that he would like to see more women in the new Cabinet. ”For example,  I would like a portofolio for Stela Mocan (head of the e-Government Center), who would be entrusted with such tasks as to coordinate the structural reforms and to join the efforts of several ministries. Closer cooperation is needed between the Ministry of Regional Development and the Minstry of the Environment. Women could be brought from the diaspora and nongovernmental organizations. For instance, lawyer Doinea Straisteanu can head the Ministry of Justice,” he noted, adding that the Labor Code should be reviewed.

The executive director of the Partnership for Developemnt Center also said that civil society is now more passive because it does not want to become involved in political games. The NGOs will not inidcate who should be in the Cabinet. If the discussions between the parties would have been transparent, we had not had had such a difficult situation when the nominated Prime Minister should look for votes to be invested.
